Rosanna HendersonI have always loved strong colours and have used them in different art forms over the years. I am known for my bright clothing and as an ‘autumn’ person orange, brown and green are my favourite colours. I was introduced to mosaics through my friend Julia and was immediately attracted to the colour, physicality and discipline of creating a mosaic. For me, mosaicing suits the various aspects of my personality. Mosaicing can be very neat and precise when making a pot or mirror. They can also be very delicate requiring tiny slivers of tile and tweezers when creating an intricate piece of work. However, when working on an abstract it is great to be spontaneous and go with the creativity. When it comes to grouting, it is time to roll your sleeves up and get stuck in. I usually end up using my hands and getting into more of a mess than the mosaic I am working on.
I love the different types of tiles: glass tesserae in bright and vivid colours. Ceramic tiles are beautiful in a muted and subtle way with greens, tans and mustards. There are also a whole range of other materials to use so you can never have too many or get bored with them. Having been shown how to mosaic by my friend Julia and then going on a couple of weekend courses, I started with mirrors and pots and then progressed to a whole range of items including pictures, wall panels and abstracts in multi media. I am especially fond of outdoor mosaics which complement my other passion which is gardening.
